I booked this hotel a few years back like 4-5 years ago, and I chose this because of their Hello Kitty suite back in the days, but sadly they removed the themed suites last early 2016. Although there are no HK rooms anymore, the good thing is that they still honor the deposit I made and deducted it to its present rate. We just exchange few emails and they sent us quickly a reservation. Since we visited during CNY and Kaohsiung Lantern Festival, the rate was quite high compared to its regular season. You can booked this hotel for less at Agoda.
- CNY Daily Rate with breakfast: NT$ 5760 + 576 services charge
- NT$6,336–NT$4,253 (Deposit Made in 2011)
- NT$2,083 (Balance for Payment Upon Arrival)
Grand Hi-lai is a 5-star hotel, so you’re guaranteed to be treated well and special from arrival to check-out. Checking-in was smooth and fast; we were given a room on the 35th floor which was pretty amazing because of the city view. On top of that, there’s welcome fruits and yukata for two.
As for the room, it’s pretty dated but clean and spacious enough. Like most 5-star hotels, the room is classy and colored accordingly in Neutral and Beige with wood accents. The bed is quite comfy with thick duvet as usual.
Like typical 5-star hotels, they have a luxurious well-lighted lobby with humongous chandelier. They also have a lounge, several restaurants, gym, conference, banquet hall and swimming pool of course. Breakfast is pretty standard for this kind of hotel and of course with additional Chinese cuisine options.
Checking out just like check-in was fast and easy, they even handed me a paper bag with a gift inside. Since it’s my birthday, the hotel gifted me a car key chain with hotel name and logo on it.
As per location, its situated in the Harbor area and you can take a walk to explore the nearby park. There’s plenty of small shops and eateries scattered in the area plus local coffee shops and boba tea houses are just around the corner. From Kaohsiung Main Station, we chartered a cab to the hotel and set us back around NTD180.
