Made for those people with a penchant for the unusual and for those who love something unconventional. Food is okay too so it's worth it.

Spill the Beans!
Let me tell you about my little obsession with Themed Restaurants and Cafes. For the past few years, themed restaurants are emerging all over Asia especially in Japan and Korea. Even Thailand and Taiwan are keeping up with this kind of trend. Sometimes, people are swarming the resto or cafe not because of food but due to its overall feel and aesthetic presentation. And with this obsession, I’ve been to several themed resto/cafe spots, like the Hello Kitty Cafe in Hongdae several times, I’ve gone to Charlie Brown Cafe both in Hong Kong and Seoul, I went overboard in Three Broomstick in Osaka, I’ve also tried Mickey Mouse restaurant in Disney and to top it all, I recently visited this quirky resto in Taipei not once but twice.
Modern Toilet Restaurant
From its quirky name Modern Toilet, you can easily pick up what’s the peculiar setting or ambiance of this restaurant and I agree with what they’re trying to imply, toilet and poops are all over the place. Modern Restaurant started when one of the owners read a manga pertaining to a certain Dr. Slump on the toilet, ideas and brainstorming follow and the rest is history. It materialized last May 2004 and since then, its popularity grew and they now have several branches in Taiwan.
Modern Toilet is located at 7 Lane 50 Xining South Road Taipei
The main entrance is located along the alley and not on the main road although you can see their humongous toilet signage on the building.
And when you see this three flashy toilets then you’re in the right place! Yey!
As the theme implies, you can see poops on the table, toilet bowls, and even toilet plungers as lights.
As usual, it attracts customers who enjoy the unusual and those who love to take photos ^_^
Another side of the resto.
Applause, Applause! I’m diligent enough to take photos of the entire Menu for your reference. Prices are also listed and for the main menu, they usually come with a set of rice, soup, ice cream, and drinks. 🙂

First Visit with My Boo
As I’ve mentioned earlier I already visited this place twice, my first visit was with my boo last February 5. Like me, he loves themed parks and restos and so having these snaps below are necessary to complete our travel diaries.
I ordered Ham & Cheese Stuff Fried Chicken for NTD250 and basically, the price already includes a set of soup, a cup of rice, ice cream and drinks. You have the option to upgrade your drinks to a urinal for additional NTD50.
My Husband ordered this Spicy Beef Hotpot for NTD350, and just like my order it also comes with the set same as above.
As always, we shared so we can have a taste of both meals.
The food is not something to boast for but it’s palatable and decent enough so overall it’s good for the price. All foods were served in accordance with the resto theme. Food mostly served in a toilet bowl and sink.
Second Visit with my BFF
After a month, I went back to Taiwan with my cousin and of course before we leave Taipei we stop here for both photo opportunity and for food as well.
Me and my cousin #GelaiLakwatsera who share the same passion as mine–traveling. Meet her on IG @gelaimanny.
Seafood with Cream Sauce Pasta NTD280
Strawberry Flavored Ice Shavings for NTD12O
True to its Name
What I love about Modern Toilet is their dedication to their theme, they simply incorporated anything to keep up with the theme. Just add NTD50 and you can take home this urinal container. There’s also plenty of poops merchandise you can take home.
Urinal Container for NTD50 as a souvenir. Now we’re using it for my son’s emergency wee time whenever we travel by land.
Yummy Chocolate Ice Cream as Poops!
Urinal as Tumbler with Iced Tea?
All Tables come with this clear glass over a sink with 💩
And of course, toilet bowl as dining chairs is the norm.
While the real toilet bowl is used as wash bowl.
