ᴋᴏʀᴇᴀ ✈ My First Ski Lesson at Muju Ski Resort

It was in February 2010 that I and my husband needed to flew to South Korea for an emergency meeting with our Supplier. The head office and Factory are based in Gwangjusi, one of the five biggest cities in South Korea. Although the main purpose was for business, we make sure to have some fun during our stay there after all its the land of Kpop and Kdramas 🙂

I grew up  in a tropical country wherein almost everyday is sunny that’s why being on a winter and chilly place like this is something unusual to me. One of the things that I would love to try is skiing and that cable car ride on the mountain, I actually told my supplier about this fantasy and they were generous enough to arrange this special trip for me and my husband.

The Muju Ski Resort

the ski resort

Muju SKi Resort is very popular among koreans. Aside from skiing, visitors can enjoy a gondola ride to the beautiful peak of Deokyusan Mountain or relax in the resort’s outdoor hot springs.

For your information this resort was the shooting location for the phenomenal manga turned koreanovela BOYS OVER FLOWERS. In the 12th episode, F4 and Geum Jan-di decided to take a ski-trip. Jun-pyo gives Jan-di a very special necklace that has star and moon on it, but she ends up losing it while skiing of course with those evil school mates of her. Desperate, Jan-di heads off  to the mountains alone to look for the necklace and gets lost in the dark. Fortunately, Gu Jun-pyo finds her, and they take shelter in a small wood cabin, but they were trapped for the night due to the heavy snowfall. I can vividly remember that scenes, anyways moving forward I really enjoy the place.

The Ski Lesson

We woke up as early as 4:30 am and prepared ourselves since Sonya (a korean friend of ours) will pick us up as early as 5:oo am in the morning since we have to catch the bus going to the resort which is pre-booked as per travel agency contacted by our friend.

The route that we took ( Distance : 182 Km , Traveling time: 2h 10m)

88 Expressway → Hamyang JCT → Daejin Expressway → Turn left after Mt. Deokyu I.C(11Km) → Towards Guchundong →Chimok Tunnel → Guchundong Tunnel → Muju Resort

The Bus –Kwangnam Bus

the parking area you can see its covered by snow!

We arrived at the resort facility around 7:30 in the morning and headed to the cafeteria to have breakfast. It’s chilling and freaking cold that time at -6 degree celsius (about 21.2 Fahrenheit). You can see some of the ice along the parking area. We just had quick and very light breakfast (I only had coffee and sausage), we headed to the ski-rental and get ready for our Morning Class.

I wasn’t able to take photos of the actual lessons itself since I am so focused with it and at the same time its hard to get your camera snap while trying to make a perfect eight move 🙂 the lesson took us 4 hours, the 30 minutes is dedicated to warming you up and getting to know the equipments. Basically we’re wearing the violet vest that indicate that we are on the beginners level.
